The Sulawesi Armor Vest gets its namesake from the place it originated. Sulawesi is an island located in the Indonesian archipelago and the vest is made from over 150 seaheart beans drilled and tied over a fiber backing. These hard discs provided protection to the indigenous tribes of Sulawesi as they hunted and warred against each other. Each vest is unique and is a reflection of the community and artisan that produced them. Not only did this offer protection but they were a status symbol within the tribal community.
